As part of the EU-Africa Business Forum 2022, UNECE is organizing a side event on the 15 of February 2022 from 14:30 to 15:15 CET.
Compliance with ESG and due diligence requirements is a costly process whereby traceability of value chains is a key enabler. At the same time, harnessing the potential of advanced technologies and digital solutions is worth exploring to connect small-scale actors (farmers, MSMEs, women-led businesses) embracing sustainability, to global value chains and consumers.
This session will demonstrate how advanced technologies, like blockchain, can enable traceability and risk-based due diligence across the two continents for sustainable value chains in fashion and apparel. It will showcase end-to-end traceability in support of reliable product claims, from origin, to living wages, to climate risk mitigation and adaptation.
Together, experts will focus on opportunities to scale-up impactful solutions for an ethical fashion and apparel industry, while ensuring market access for small-holders and SMEs in developing economies.
This side session is organized in connection with the ITC-UNECE joint initiative for Enhancing Transparency and Traceability of Sustainable Value Chains in Garment and Footwear, implemented support of the European Union.
