Keeping up with latest technology trends for greater impact in trade facilitation and eBusiness

Technology is evolving faster than ever before in human history. We are at the intersection of several cutting-edge technologies that are redefining interactions between the physical and virtual world, driving disruption and enabling new business models.

Thought-leaders and practitioners presented a set of examples of new emerging technologies - new trends in device autonomy, connectivity and computation - at a Conference during the 33rd UN/CEFACT (United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business) Forum on 3 April.

Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Things, Quantum Computing, Edge devices, 5G Networks and other trend technologies hold significant promise in trade facilitation, and were listed by IT research and consulting firm Gartner amongst the TOP 10 Strategy Technology Trends for 2019. Given these cutting-edge developments in technology, it is important to keep up to date with the latest trends to evaluate which trends and approaches may be viable for future developments, investments and practical implementation.

The conference introduced and showcased concepts of emerging technologies and their potential implications, impacts, and benefits for electronic trade and trade facilitation in general. The event attracted government officials, experts and practitioners from different fields in trade and e-business, such as logistics, finance, e-Government, etc. It was concluded that putting the latest technological development into context of other trade fields will benefit the whole community. The conference was also be part of UNCTAD’s eCommerce week.
