UNECE and the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21), in close cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA), have joined forces to develop the UNECE Renewable Energy Status Report, which aims at closing the data and information gap as well as tracking future progress on renewables in the region.
In contrast to the Renewables 2015 Global Status Report, the UNECE report concentrates on the efforts of 17 selected countries in the region:
Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro, Russian Federation, Serbia, Tajikistan, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The draft report, which draws on the experience of many contributors, making it a collaborative effort, is now open for peer review until 23 September.
Preliminary results confirm that the region is highly promising for the deployment of all renewable energy technologies. The region is well developed in terms of drafting and adopting strategic planning documents related to renewable energy although considerable improvements of the legal and regulatory framework are still awaited in member States that are less advanced in terms of renewable energy uptake. Most UNECE countries have policies or targets in place for renewable energy.
Expert comments on the draft are welcome at:

Inputs and any comments are highly appreciated and will be acknowledged in the final report.
This review process will close on Wednesday, 23 September 2015, at 12:00 CEST. No comment will be accepted after this time.
