Regional Forum- Meeting of the Heads of Emergency Authorities of Central Asian Countries

To address crucial matters and coordinate actions to strengthen regional cooperation in disaster and emergency risk reduction, and implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Asia, this high-level event is organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan as the presiding entity. 

This Regional Forum is expected to discuss, agree, and adopt resolutions to further enhance regional cooperation on DRR, climate change and emergencies, as well as deliver several outcomes, including a signed appeal to the UN to establish an early warning system for transboundary disasters, discussion and adoption of the Digital Atlas of Hazards for Central Asia, resolutions for the next Regional Forum in 2024, and a signed Regional Forum Protocol. 

The Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction serves as the Secretariat of the Regional Forum, with support from the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the UN Development Programme, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in both technical and financial aspects. 

The UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents contribute to the event by making a presentation on “UNECE’s Work on Mine Tailings Safety and Climate Change”.
