Clean Energy, Climate and the Built Environment Workshop

In the lead up to the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation’s Global Clean Energy Action Forum in Pittsburgh, dozens of international, national and regional experts in clean energy, green building and sustainable development participated in the daylong workshop, “Clean Energy, Climate and the Built Environment:  Ensuring a Healthy, Just and Sustainable Future for All.”

This interactive event was hosted by Green Building Alliance (GBA), Covestro THINC30, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, United Nations Environment Programme and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction.

In a series of five sessions, the experts examined, among other subjects, the decarbonization of buildings, electrical grids, manufacturing processes, and supply chains. In addition, the need for a just transition including and empowering all parties involved was also discussed.

Representatives of the UNECE Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane and Just Transition, Mr. Raymond Pilcher (Chair of the Group), and Mr. Michal Drabik (Secretary of the Group) participated in the event and contributed to two panel discussions: Powering the Future: Electrification and Decarbonization, and  Igniting a Clean Energy Economy: Empowering People + Just Transition (respectively).
