INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND THE SUSTAINABLE USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Governance for Circular Economy

06 April 2022 17:15 - 18:30
Switzerland

The post-pandemic economic recovery offers an opportunity to accelerate the transition from a linear to a more sustainable, circular model. It requires, however, strong governance to create a regulatory
framework that incentivizes sustainable resource use rather than hinder the circular transition. A successful move towards the circular economy can only be achieved through extensive coordination, collaboration, and communication across all ministries and between every administrative level - from municipal to national.

At this side-event of UNECE’s Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, governmental officials and other stakeholders will discuss how to facilitate coordination between the different governmental institutions and share best practices on administrative requirements for policymaking in the circular economy context. This session will bring representatives from different parts of the UNECE region to share their experiences regarding the implementations of Circular Economy regulations and explore the way forward. Furthermore, the event will mark the launch of the Multi-stakeholder Network connecting policymakers and other circular economy actors to promote sharing of experiences and cooperation in the field.
