Informal Network of Experts on Sustainable Urban Forestry (INESUF): Benchmarking Collaboration (Second Meeting)

Online

05 October 2022 13:00 - 16:30

The Informal Network of Experts on Sustainable Urban Forestry (INESUF) provides a forum for knowledge exchange, capacity-building and peer-to-peer learning to advance sustainable urban and peri-urban forestry.

Cities and experts report that a lack of urban forestry benchmarks makes it difficult to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely) targets during urban forestry planning and to assess whether plans are realistic, ambitious and well-targeted. Benchmarking of sustainable urban and peri-urban forestry among peer cities was proposed as an area for collaboration during the Second Meeting of the INESUF on 8 December, 2021. Access to consistent, comparable data could support effective planning, monitoring and comparison among peers.

An INESUF Benchmarking Collaboration was launched as a result, and the First Meeting of the Benchmarking Collaboration was organized on March 28, 2022. The meeting facilitated dialogue among participants to discuss, in detail, collaborative activities that could be implemented through the Informal Network to support benchmarking. Based on this discussion, UNECE is developing a sustainable urban and peri urban forestry benchmarking survey to share with cities participating in the Trees in Cities Challenge, as well as other interested cities across the UNECE region and beyond.

This Second Meeting of the Benchmarking Collaboration will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to comment on and provide input to the design of the sustainable urban and peri-urban forestry benchmarking survey.

The meeting will be held via Microsoft Teams. Please register to receive the link to join the meeting.

Please note this event will be held online via Microsoft Teams in English only.
