| SUMMARY |
| At its twenty-first session (20 June 2011), the Committee began its consideration of the information provided by a Ukrainian non-governmental organization regarding the planned extension of the Rivne nuclear power plant (NPP) in Ukraine, close to the border with Belarus and Poland (EIA/IC/INFO/7). |
| It asked the Chair to invite the Government of Ukraine to provide information on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the planned activity, as well as clarification on whether the Government had taken the necessary legal, administrative and other measures to implement the provisions of the Convention. |
| The Committee further considered the information received at its twenty-second (5-7 September 2011), twenty-third (5-7 December 2011), and twenty-fifth (11-13 September 2012) sessions. At its twenty-seventh session (12-14 March 2013), the Committee decided to begin a Committee initiative further to paragraph 6 of the Committee's structure and functions. |
| In line with paragraph 9 of the Committee's structure and functions, the Committee decided to invite Ukraine to its twenty-eighth session (10-12 September 2013) to participate in the discussion and to present information and opinions on the matter under consideration. |
| The Committee adopted its findings and recommendations on its thirtieth session (25-27 February 2014) and requested the secretariat to transmit them for consideration by the MOP at its sixth session (2-5 June 2014). The MOP considered the Committee's findings and recommendations, as reflected in decision VI/2.
