Argentina: A middle-income country with a population of 45.809 million. According to WHO (2018), the road fatalities in Argentina have the 17th highest in the American Region among the 30 countries (14 deaths per 100,000 population). Meanwhile, the regional rate is 15.6 deaths per 100,000 population, and the rate in Argentina is lower than the regional rate. Argentina has acceded to none of the 7 UN road safety legal instruments.
During the mission, the Special Envoy met with the following officials towards advocating for safer roads in the country:
• H.E. Mr. Alexis Guerrera and Mr. Pablo Martinez Carignano, Director, National Road Safety Agency (ANSV);
• H.E. Ms. Carla Vizzotti, Minister of Health;
• Ms. Manuela Lopez Menendez, Secretary of Transport of City of Buenos Aires;
• Road victims associations;
• Delegation from MiNU NGO;
• UNCT Argentina.
Furthermore, on 25 August 2022, the Special Envoy delivered a speech during a reception organized by the Asociacion Argentina de Volantes and received a special award for his engagement on mobility throughout the years.
Lastly, on 26 August 2022, the Special Envoy delivered a keynote speech at the Presentation of Youth Driver’s license Pilot Program, which aims at building safer roads for Pilar and Buenos Aires Province.
