UNECE’s Transport Division helps to unlock Central Asia trade and transport
2 October 2007
Central Asia faces a number of transport and transit challenges ranging from geographical location to inadequate infrastructure to complex customs procedures. To help address some of these challenges, a high-level conference aimed at strengthening political co-operation on developing transit transportation in and through Central Asia is being organized.
The conference will take place on 23-24 October 2007 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan and is organized by the OSCE Secretariat, in co-operation with the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and the Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS). The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is also providing support.
The UNECE’s Transport Division will actively participate to promote UNECE international legal instruments in the area of transport. The Conference will also provide an early opportunity to review progress made in the implementation of the 2003 United Nations Almaty Programme of Action.
