On 21 March 2023, the Special Envoy met with H.E. Mr. Cristian Espinosa Cañizares, Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce road safety as a development challenge globally, regionally and nationally; to encourage engagement with UN-relevant initiatives, including the UN – JCDecaux road safety campaign as well as the UNRSF; and to discuss the Special Envoy’s potential plans to travel to Ecuador, with strong support from the World Bank and the UN, which have identified the country as a priority.
