Expert meetings

Under the umbrella of the High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics (HLG-MOS), various expert meetings and workshops are organized to share and discuss innovative practices in official statistics and identify future areas of work. These events are aimed at experts in the respective fields and senior to middle-level managers.

HLG-MOS Annual Modernisation Workshop

The work programme of HLG-MOS consists of 2-3 annual Projects on emerging technologies and concepts in specific areas and 4 Modernisation Groups that provide continuous support to the cross-cutting pillars that are important for modernising statistical organisations such as standards, modern methods and human resources. Since its inception, the annual HLG-MOS Workshop on the Modernisation of Official Statistics has provided an opportunity for the experts who worked on the HLG-MOS activities to get together to share results and outcomes of the activities, exchange ideas for the selection of activities for the next year, and discuss priorities and alignment with HLG-MOS vision.

The HLG-MOS projects work on emerging technologies and ideas, normally with a fixed time frame of 1-2 years. The past HLG-MOS projects on machine learning, strategic communication, synthetic data, and big data spearheaded developments on these topics in the official statistics community. The sprints offer an opportunity for concentrated, intensive efforts to rapidly make progress on projects. Below provides a list of sprints held for past HLG-MOS projects (please note that sprints are mostly internal to project members, thus links are not publicly available)
