On 12 December 2023, the Special Envoy conveyed his message at the Launch of the latest Global Status Report on Road Safety. The report highlights a 5 percent reduction in road crash deaths, from 1.35 million to 1.19 million per year since 2010, which is encouraging news. Nevertheless, the Special Envoy reminded that, as we work towards meeting the goal of halving road crash deaths by 2030, we need a paradigm shift in leadership, commitment, investment and action from governments everywhere, and including everyone in society, from road users to those who design and build our infrastructure. The UN is fully committed to accelerating action to save lives on the roads, but this requires concerted efforts on infrastructure, environment and special attention towards vulnerable users.
On the margins of the above, the regular UN Road Safety Collaboration Meeting took place, and it was also attended by the Special Envoy.
