Forests and Croissants Breakfast - State of Forests in the Caucasus and Central Asia

Launch event of a series of publications on the state of forests in the Caucasus and Central Asia

29 May 2019
Room IX, Palais des Nations Geneva Switzerland

After a short breakfast and opening remarks, the event will feature a 5-minute quiz and a presentation on the state of forests in the Caucasus and Central Asia. In addition, all countries that contributed to the publications are invited to provide comments in a short 'Ambassador's Roundtable'.

Background:

The publication "State of Forests of the Caucasus and Central Asia" is the first ever overview of forests in the region compiled in one comprehensive document that attempts to cover all dimensions of sustainable forest management.

The second study “Forest Landscape Restoration in the Caucasus and Central Asia” assesses key drivers of forest degradation and the potential for forest landscape restoration in the Caucasus and Central Asia and was undertaken to support the preparation of restoration pledges in eight countries in the run up to the Ministerial Roundtable on Forest Landscape Restoration and the Bonn Challenge that took place in June 2018.

The third publication “Guidelines for the Development of a Criteria and Indicator Set for Sustainable Forest Management” provides specific tools and reference materials to improve monitoring, reporting and assessment of key aspects of Sustainable Forest Management in the region.
