Eleventh session of the SPECA Working Group on Trade

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is organizing a High-level Seminar on the implementation of trade facilitation and regional trade cooperation among the Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan and a meeting of the Working Group on Trade at the WTO headquarters in Geneva, on 10 July 2017. It will focus on the following themes supporting the implementation of the trade-related Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia (SDG 17.10 and SDG 17.11):

  • Opportunities and challenges for the countries from participation in the rules-based multilateral trading system: experiences and lessons learnt;
  • Trade facilitation and expanding regional trade: existing trade facilitation projects in the subregion and entry into force of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement; exchange of experiences and possibilities for mutual assistance among the countries;
  • Partnerships in support for trade facilitation and the Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia: discussion including representatives of the countries, international organizations and development partners;
  • Possibilities for involving the private sector in support for trade facilitation and a regional market. The event will review national and regional plans and strategies of the Central Asian countries for trade development and facilitation. It could also strengthen cooperation among trade diplomats of the SPECA countries.

Target audience: policy makers from the Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan.
