Special Envoy Met with the Minister of Transport of South Africa

On 29 April, the Special Envoy met with the Minister of Transport and provided him with an overview of his mandate, activities and priorities.
The Special Envoy commended South Africa for exemplary performance as demonstrated in the mid-term review of the African Road Safety Action Plan implementation, performed by UN Economic Commission for Africa. He reminded the Minister that South Africa still has high fatality rates and is a contracting party to three out of six United Nations road safety conventions, to date.
The Special Envoy further informed the Minister about the 3rd High-Level Conference on Road Safety and encouraged his participation and shared about the newly established UN Road Safety Trust Fund and encouraged support to its operations.
