Post-2015 Water Thematic Consultation

Have your voice heard - Water in the post-2015 development agenda

The Thematic Consultation on Water (water consultation) in the post-2015 development agenda is now open. Please provide your inputs on the World We Want 2015 website

The water consultation is part of the UN-system led “global dialogue” comprising 50 - 100 Country Consultations and eleven global Thematic Consultations, among them the one on water.

The water consultation is waiting for your voice as its aim is to ensure that everyone can have a say. Your ideas are needed to foster a shared vision on key future challenges in water and a new global water goal in the post-2015 development agenda. The water consultation also aims at discussing the lessons learned, challenges and opportunities related to the implementation of the present Millennium Development Goals on water and sanitation as well as what remains to be done.

The water consultation is divided into two interactive phases:

  • Phase I is the global water consultation which focuses on broad challenges to trigger engagement and discussion. The global consultation will remain online and active for the whole duration of the consultation.
  • Phase II focuses on thematic sub-consultations broadly in the areas of water, sanitation and hygiene(WASH), water resources,  waste water management and water quality. Phase II starts in mid-January and runs up to March 3rd 2013.

On 27-28 February a meeting hosted by the Swiss Government in Geneva, Post-2015 Development Agenda Consultation on Water: Water Resources Management and Wastewater Management & Water Quality, will focus on taking the results of the online consultation and going deeper into the subjects and finish by summarizing the entirety of the discussions of the Water Resources Management and Wastewater Management & Water Quality streams.

In March the outcome from the different discussions will be summarized into policy recommendations in a final report that will be transmitted to the High-level Panel on Post-2015 appointed by the UN Secretary General.

Various related events will be organized to feed into the water consultation and stimulate the on-line discussions and engagement. You may find information on these events on the webpage of the consultation.

The Thematic Consultation on Water welcomes your engagement and counts on your outreach support. Please get the word out to your networks about upcoming discussions and possibilities to engage.
