Key achievements

• Preparation and launch of negotiations on a bilateral technical agreement between Georgia and Armenia on monitoring and information exchange in the Khrami-Debed(a) basin (2021-2024). 
• A working group to advance water and health agenda established (2024). 
• New Law on Water Resources Management (Water Law), harmonized with the EU water-related directives drafted, support to consultation and finalization provided, and adopted (2023). 
• Reporting on SDG 6.5.2 and reflecting on its results by the countries supported (2021, 2023).
• Revision of the draft normative acts “On water quality ecological standards” and “On water quality ecological standards”.  
• Strategic environmental assessment in accordance with EU legislation and the SEA Protocol for selected river basin management plans conducted. 
• Regular negotiations between Georgia and Azerbaijan to develop a bilateral agreement on the Kura river. 
• A pilot project for testing the approach of the water-food-energy-ecosystems nexus in the Ganyych-Alazani river basin, shared by Azerbaijan and Georgia Water-food-energy-ecosystem nexus | UNECE (2013-17).
