The Task Force on Integrated Assessment Modelling was established by the Executive Body in 1986.
The Task Force’s main focus is to bring together – through computer models – information gathered from the Parties and from other Convention bodies on cost-effective emission control strategies. It provides regular reports to the negotiating bodies of the Convention to assist in the development of potential future legal instruments and to regularly review the existing protocols. The Task Force is co-chaired by France and Sweden. It is managed by the Centre for Integrated Assessment Modelling (CIAM), which is hosted by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) (for the mandate of CIAM, please see EB decision 2019/13).
CIAM prepares technical background material for the Task Force. Its work focuses on the development of the Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollution Interactions and Synergies (GAINS) model that has contributed to the Convention’s work for many years. The revised mandate for the Task Force can be found in EB decision 2019/7.
More information about the current development of the GAINS model as well as presentations and other technical material are available on CIAM's web pages.
