Southeast Asia Water Security - IWRM Regional Conference

As a part of mainstreaming IWRM into broader global and regional agenda, and to support the subregional process for the World Water Forum 2024 in Bali, Water Convention Secretariat, UNECE, collaborated with Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (GWP-SEA) and other partners in organizing a Southeast Asia Water Security - IWRM Regional Conference.

This event was held back-to-back with the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting of the World Water Forum 2024 (12-13 October 2023). This conference was used as a platform to discuss the common regional challenges and to share the multi-stakeholder innovative solutions in water security, ranging from water and sanitation (WASH), water for environment protection, water for economic activity and development, and including transboundary water issues. 

The regional conference focused on transboundary water cooperation challenges with data exchange as the main topic of the discussion; this was highlighted on the second day of the regional conference.

The regional conference was designed in problem-solving approach, to allow countries that are facing these identified challenges can learn and to address them.

Objectives

The objectives of the conference were:

  1. To share innovative solutions in addressing persistence challenges;
  2. To facilitate implementation of innovative solutions as needed;
  3. To introduce water cooperation frameworks as the basis for riparian countries to engage with each other;
  4. To build trust among riparian countries to cooperate at transboundary level;

Event Format

Hybrid (in person and zoom online platform), Maximum 80 in-person/offline attendance.
