On 13 March 2023, the Special Envoy contributed virtually to the Future Networked Car event by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the ECE. The Special Envoy highlighted the advantages of using Artificial Intelligence, including for the reduction of car crashes. Therefore, the Special Envoy urged the UN Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety (WP.1), the UN World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) and the ITU to work together to introduce life-saving technology more rapidly to developing world where majority of deaths and injuries occur. “New technology in vehicles is a precious tool that can bring great advances in short periods of time”, the Special Envoy mentioned.
