On 22 June 2023, the Special Envoy delivered remarks at the Eighth session of the UNRSF Advisory Board, under the agenda item 2 “Reflections by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety”. The Special Envoy elaborated on the need to have a global UNRSF, for governments to have access to the experience and expertise on proven road safety interventions that can help save lives. The Special Envoy also expressed his concern on the limited support and mentioned that the 4 million USD of projects the UNRSF awards each year is not enough. Through his last reflection, the Special Envoy highlighted concrete steps to be considered going forward, including, among the others, the launch of creative awareness campaigns such as the UN – JCDecaux campaign supported by the Special Envoy. In conclusion, the Special Envoy called on each attendee to open their respective networks to the session’s agenda and lend their voice to progress for the time remaining on the 2030 targets.
