Mission to Brasilia, Brazil 26-29 August 2023

Brazil: A upper-middle-income country with a population of 214 million. In 2021, the estimated rate per 100 000 population was 15.7 (WHO, 2023). Brazil has acceded 2 of the 7 UN road safety legal instruments.

During the mission, the Special Envoy met with the following officials to advocate for safer roads in the country:

•    H.E. Ms. Nísia Trindade Lima, Minister of Health;
•    Mr. Adrualdo Catão, Secretary for National Traffic;
•    Ms. Celina Leã, Deputy Governor of the Federal District;
•    Mr. Rafael Vitale Rodrigues, Director-General, Agencia Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT);
•    Mr. Carlos Rocha, Executive Director, Department of National Land Infrastructure (DNIT);
•    Ms. Silvia Rucks del Bo, Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team in Brazil.
