On 7 July 2023, the Special Envoy met with H.E. Mr. Marcelo Scappini Ricciardi, Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the UN Office at Geneva. This was the occasion for the Special Envoy to introduce road fatalities and injuries as a development challenge in Paraguay, regionally and globally; seek support on the upcoming visit to Asuncion from 30 August to 1 September 2023; and share about the country’s ongoing UNRSF project “Promoting Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility in Paraguay”. Sponsored by the Ministry of Transport and UNICEF, its main objective is to promote and uptake non-motorized travel and the use of public transport to help reduce road traffic crashes, traffic congestion and environmental degradation.
