The UN4UkrainianCities project provides support to the Ukraine's government in planning a phased urban recovery in the cities of Kharkiv and Mykolaiv. The initiative started in April 2022, at the second UNECE Forum of Mayors, when the Mayor of Kharkiv invited the architect Norman Foster to lead the development of the reconstruction plan for the future of the city.

The development of the reconstruction Master Plan for Kharkiv started in April 2022 and it is being led by the Norman Foster Foundation, in close collaboration with Arup Berlin and UNECE, who have been working with the Kharkiv City Council. Please see information on the earlier implemented activities at https://unece.org/housing/un4kharkiv-rehabilitation

Since July 2022, UNECE has been working to help the city of Mykolaiv. One Works, a global design and architecture company, collaborated with Ukrainian architects to develop a new reconstruction master plan to support the future rebuilding of the city of Mykolaiv. Please see information on the earlier implemented activities at https://unece.org/housing/un4kharkiv-mykolaiv

The UN4UkrainianCities project is implemented by UNECE. In 2023-2024, the project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
