EPR-like review of Ukraine

Ministers at the Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference (Nicosia, 5-7 October 2022) invited the UNECE secretariat, in cooperation with UNEP, OECD and others, to prioritize assessing the most urgent environmental needs in Ukraine based upon the methodology of the UNECE EPR Programme and on the results of ongoing and planned impacts assessments, and to make recommendations to advance a sustainable recovery of the country.  As a first step, UNECE convened an inter-agency group to coordinate assessment of environmental damage in Ukraine (read more). 

2nd EPR of Mongolia Read more

In 2023, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia requested UNECE to carry out a second EPR of the country. A preparatory mission took place 10-11 May 2024. The review mission takes place on 15-25 September 2024. The EPR Recommendations of the second EPR of Mongolia will be expert-reviewed, peer-reviewed and adopted in 2025.

4th EPR of Montenegro Read more

In 2022, the then Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism of Montenegro. A preparatory mission took place in January 2024 followed by the country review mission on 21 - 30 April 2024. The EPR Recommendations of the Fourth EPR of Montenegro will be expert-reviewed in September 2024 as well as peer-reviewed and adopted in November 2024.

4th EPR of Tajikistan Read more

In 2022, the Committee of Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan requested UNECE to carry out a fourth EPR of the country. A preparatory mission took place in November 2022 and the the country review mission was conducted from 6 to 15 November 2023. The EPR Recommendations of the Fourth EPR of Tajikistan will be expert-reviewed in September 2024 as well as peer-reviewed and adopted in November 2024.

EPR of Mauritania Read more

In 2021, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Mauritania requested UNECE to carry out an EPR of the country. A preparatory mission took place in August 2022. The country review mission was conducted from 5 to 14 December 2022. The UNECE Expert Group on EPRs expert reviewed the recommendations of the EPR of Mauritania at its meeting in Geneva on 9-10 October 2023. At its 28th session (Geneva, 1-3 November 2023) the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy peer-reviewed and adopted the EPR Recommendations of the EPR of Mauritania (EN / FR). The EPR was published in April 2024.

3rd EPR of Kyrgyzstan Read more

In 2021, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan requested UNECE to carry out a third EPR of the country. A preparatory mission took place in February 2022. The country review mission took place from 16 to 24 May 2022. The UNECE Expert Group on EPRs expert reviewed the recommendations of the Third EPR of Kyrgyzstan at its meeting in Tbilisi on 13-14 September 2022. At its Special Session (Nicosia, 3-4 October 2022), the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy, at the request of Kyrgyzstan, agreed to postpone the adoption of recommendations of the Third EPR of Kyrgyzstan to its next session. At its 28th session (Geneva, 1-3 November 2023) the Committee peer-reviewed and adopted the EPR Recommendations of the Third EPR of Kyrgyzstan (EN). The EPR was published in April 2024.

2nd EPR of Armenia Read more

In 2019, the Ministry of Environment of Armenia requested UNECE to carry out a second EPR of the country.  A preparatory mission took place in December 2021. The country review mission took place from 14 to 22 March 2022. The UNECE Expert Group on EPRs expert reviewed the recommendations of the Second EPR of Armenia at its meeting in Tbilisi on 12-13 September 2022. At its Special Session (Nicosia, 3-4 October 2022), the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy peer-reviewed and adopted the EPR Recommendations of the Second EPR of Armenia (EN). The EPR will be published in 2023/2024.

3rd EPR of Azerbaijan  Read more

In 2019, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan requested UNECE to carry out a third EPR of the country. A preparatory mission took place in November 2019. The country review mission took place from 15 to 23 November 2021. The UNECE Expert Group on EPRs expert reviewed the recommendations of the Third EPR of Azerbaijan at its meeting in Tbilisi on 15-16 September 2022. At its Special Session (Nicosia, 3-4 October 2022), the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy peer-reviewed and adopted the EPR Recommendations of the Third EPR of Azerbaijan (EN). The EPR will be launched in 2024.
