Background: What are Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs)?
The 2030 Agenda encourages Member States to review their national experiences in implementing the SDGs, including successes, challenges and lessons learned. Voluntary national reviews are part of the follow‐up and review of the 2030 Agenda. Such reviews are carried out by the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). They are to be voluntary, state‐led, undertaken by both developed and developing countries, and provide a platform for partnerships, including through the participation of Major Groups and other stakeholders. The high participation in Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) within our region is proof for the strong efforts by UNECE member States to translate the SDGs into policy actions.
