30 November - 01 December 2017
Room XXI, Palais des Nations Geneva Switzerland
First Meeting - UN/LOCODE Advisory Group

Introduction

A UN/LOCODE Advisory Group was proposed to deal with the main issues related to UN/LOCODE maintenance and development. The Mandate and Terms of Reference of the Advisory Group on the United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations (UN/LOCODE) (ECE/TRADE/C/CEFACT/2017/17 ENGFRE and RUS) has now been approved by the UNECE Executive Committee (EXCOM). The UN/LOCODE Advisory Group will advise and support the UNECE Secretariat and UN/CEFACT in the maintenance and further development of the UN/LOCODE.

In this regard, UNECE will organize the first meeting of this UN/LOCODE Advisory Group in Geneva from 30 November to 1 December 2017 with the following objectives:

  • Officially launch this Advisory Group and meet the group members
  • Discuss the future project to re-engineer the UN/LOCODE system and set up a repository following the UN/LOCODE business requirement study
  • Discuss a possible revision of UNECE Recommendation 16 which would be conducted through UN/CEFACT following the ODP
  • Discuss maintenance issues relating to the UNLOCODE workflow

The UN/LOCODE Advisory Group is open to key stakeholders, such as:

  • UN/LOCODE Focal Points
  • Key users:
    • Governmental Institutions
    • Business
    • Civil Society
    • Consumer Organisations
    • International organisations
  • UN/CEFACT experts

Participation in this launch meeting will be a key opportunity to be involved from day one and to assist to set the stage for future activities.

The UNECE Secretariat welcomes all key stakeholders to work closely to support the development, enhancement and maintenance of UN/LOCODE in a sustainable way and believes that this new Advisory Group will play an important role in future developments. This first meeting represents an important milestone in the UN/LOCODE history.
