On 11-13 April 2022 the International Centre of Excellence on CMM in Poland, the UNECE Group of Experts on CMM and Just Transition, and GMI held a workshop titled Coal Mine Methane - regulations, monitoring, capture and useThe event was delivered within the framework of the XXXI School of Underground Mining organized by the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of the Mining and Geoengineering of the AGH University of Science and Technology. 

This year, exceptionally, the workshop was held in Polish only. The main focus of the event was given to:

  • Technical and legal aspects of coal mine methane emissions mitigation, during which, among other subjects, we will discuss:
    • the new EU legislative proposal on methane, as well as 
    • the current practices and technical possibilities of monitoring and reporting methane emissions from coal mines;
  • Methane risk assessment and explosion prevention; and
  • Ventilation.
