Disaster risk reduction

Diaster Risk Reduction

Introduction

Increased use of standards in the context of disaster risk reduction (DRR) are explicitly demanded by governments, business and societal stakeholders. These can be used to increase effectiveness and efficiency, facilitate the adoption of common risk management terminology and methodology, provide sound metrics and enhance accountability and transparency. Risk management standards in particular have the potential to be used as a methodology for the effective pooling of resources to manage all kinds of risk, including natural hazards.

In Focus

The Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction 2022 is available, following the 7th meeting of the Global Platform for DRR. The work of UNECE and particularly WP.6 has been brought to the attention of this work.
