Ageing-related statistics

As the populations of UNECE countries grow older, there is an increasing need for statistical practices that take ageing into account: both to measure the specific features of older individuals and their lives, and to ensure that statistics in general, across all domains, are well-adapted to the realities of ageing populations. For example, surveys on living conditions, health or well-being should sufficiently represent the older population that does not live in private households.
We guide countries in measuring features of older populations and the factors affecting older people's lives, through the UNECE Recommendations on Ageing-related Statistics.
The inclusion of populations of older people living in institutions has been identified as an important area for investigation by the CES bureau, which has established a task force to conduct this work.
