On 12 January 2021, the Special Envoy hosted the virtual launch of the Road Safety Performance Review report and presented its recommendations to the following high-level government officials of Ethiopia and UN representative: H.E. Ms. Dagmawit Moges Bekele, Minister of Transport; H.E Dr. Lia Tadesse, Minister of Health; and Dr. Vera Songwe, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary, UNECA. The review, conducted in partnership with ECA and ECE, provides a holistic assessment of the country’s road safety situation and pinpoints concrete measures to save lives.
Upon the report was successfully launched, the Minister of Transport made a commitment to key recommendations from the report. The virtual event, attended by international and national stakeholders and media agencies, demonstrated the significant interest to improve road safety in Ethiopia.
