The Task Force meeting on the Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystem Nexus

18 October 2017
Salle V, Palais des Nations Geneva Switzerland

The fifth meeting of the Task Force on the Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystems Nexus was organized in the Palais des Nations in Geneva on 18 October 2017 under the leadership of the Government of Finland, with the support of the UNECE secretariat.

It was preceded by the global workshop on water allocation in transboundary basins (16-17 October 2017).

The fifth meeting aimed to discuss and provide guidance to the implementation of the activities on the water-food-energy-ecosystems nexus under the programme of work for 2016-2018 of the Water Convention.   In particular, methodological advances in further developing and applying the participatory nexus assessment methodology developed under the Convention was presented.  The status of the ongoing basin assessments was also reviewed in the meeting and the conclusions from the global stock-taking workshop on nexus assessments recalled. Based on these elements, the Task Force discussed the content and scope of a synthesis document to be produced for the eighth Meeting of the Parties. Possible follow up actions to assessments already carried out was also discussed. Reflecting the intensified involvement of energy sector authorities and stakeholders in the nexus activities under the Water Convention, the meeting started with a session devoted to sharing experience from intersectoral coordination and integrated planning from the perspective of energy sector.

The working languages were English, French, Russian and Spanish.

This meeting was part of the area of work on the nexus.
