Fifth Session of the SPECA Project Working Group on Knowledge-based Development

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) are co-organizing the fifth session of the SPECA Project Working Group on Knowledge-based Development (PWG on KBD).

 

In line with the overall objectives of SPECA to support its member countries in developing subregional cooperation, and integrating their economies into the world economy, the PWG on KBD serves as a forum for discussion on issues related to knowledge-based development, including information and communication technologies (ICT) related policy and regulatory issues. The PWG on KBD promotes and supports policies on knowledge-based development, facilitates cooperation between SPECA member countries and other regional initiatives, and coordinates capacity-building and institutional strengthening activities.

 

The purpose of the fifth session of the PWG on KBD is to review programme implementation in 2012-2013 and to adopt the programme of work for 2014-2015. The session will be attended by national representatives from SPECA member countries, experts on various aspects of knowledge-based development, relevant subregional organizations, as well as bilateral and multilateral organizations working on knowledge-based development issues in SPECA member countries.

Prior to the event, ESCAP is hosting an expert consultation on the Asia-Pacific information superhighway on 3-4 December 2013.
