Meeting with Ambassadors of France and USA to the Office of the UN in Geneva

On 13 March 2020, the Special Envoy met with H.E. Mr. François Rivasseau, Permanent Representative of France to the Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, and H.E. Mr. Andrew Bremberg, Permanent Representative-Designate of the United States of America to the Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Genevato to provide an overview on the road safety situation.

 

He expressed concern about increasing road traffic fatalities in the United States since 2014. Hence, he applauded for embracing a Vision Zero and setting a nationwide goal to end traffic deaths by 2050. He conveyed his appreciation to France for supporting international efforts and for contributing to the UN Road Safety Fund. Furthermore, the Special Envoy explained that the Ministerial Declaration of the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety called upon Member States to reducing road traffic deaths by 50% within 2030. He also asked for support to the upcoming UN General Assembly Resolution on improving road safety, expected to be introduced in New York this year.
