The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety visits East Africa (29 May-8 June) to support new mobility initiatives

After a mission earlier this month to West Africa (Senegal and Ivory Coast), Special Envoy Jean Todt will visit Ethiopia (May 29-31), Kenya (June 1-5) and Zimbabwe (June 6-8) to meet with ministers and representatives of the public and private sector, and NGOs, to advocate for the effective implementation of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, which aims to halve the number of victims on the road by 2030. 

Uzbekistan takes further measures to improve road safety

On the occasion of the 7th UN Global Road Safety Week, UNECE together with UNICEF Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Interior of Uzbekistan organized a workshop to discuss how to improve the national road safety system in the country. 

The workshop kicked off with a policy dialogue with national road safety stakeholders on the preliminary findings and recommendations of Uzbekistan’s Road Safety Performance Review (RSPR), and it was followed by a capacity-building workshop on speed management and safe vehicles.

UNECE’s Inland Transport Committee takes action to facilitate wider adoption of electric vehicles

Fight against climate change at the centre of Ministerial Declaration adopted by UNECE’s Inland Transport Committee

Today as part of the annual session of UNECE's Inland Transport Committee (ITC), ministers from around the world adopted a Ministerial Declaration that calls for harnessing the full potential of inland transport solutions in the global fight against climate change. The declaration will give direction to the work of ITC as the United Nations platform for inland transport to deliver on climate change solutions and accelerate the transition to decarbonized mobility and net zero or low emissions in the inland transport sector.
