Global Methane Forum calls to turn commitments into action on path to COP29

Tackling emissions of methane now is essential to meet the Paris Agreement goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels by 2050. With political momentum building fast for methane mitigation and, as emissions measurement continues to sharpen through satellite and other technologies, the Global Methane Forum brought together leaders to help turn commitment into real cuts in methane emissions.  

2024 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development: harnessing opportunities in key SDG transition areas

The 2024 UNECE Regional Forum on Sustainable Development brought together over 800 participants to generate momentum for a regional push for SDG acceleration. Governments and other stakeholders exchanged and learned from each other on effective policies for speeding up progress towards SDG implementation. The forum took place on 13 and 14 March, with pre-meetings from Youth and Civil Society as well as 40 side events kicking off in the days before.  

UNECE issues guidelines for measuring the circular economy

Moving to a more circular economy is increasingly recognized as vital to sustainable development, decarbonization, resource efficiency and competitiveness. More and more countries are adopting national policies that are directly or indirectly related to the sustainable management of natural resources and the establishment of a circular life-cycle of materials.

Progress is insufficient in many key areas and further affected by multiple crises, as pointed out in UNECE’s 2024 SDG progress report.    

UNECE workshop focuses on prospects for building resilient, diversified and sustainable value chains in Central Asia

Four years ago, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it disrupted the normal functioning of open markets. The ensuing crisis had crippling effects on global trade and productive capacities: it broke supply chains, reduced connectivity and slowed the flow of essential goods. Global food and energy insecurity increased, hindering the fight against poverty, hunger and inequality, ultimately undermining efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
