On 25 March, the European Union Delegation in Geneva hosted the launch of the Geneva Friends of Road Safety Network aimed to improve road safety through awareness raising, mobilizing funding and increasing development cooperation.
This initiative is a result of Special Envoy’s close collaboration with the EU Delegation and the diplomatic corps in Geneva and participation is open to all ambassadors and international officials accredited to UN Office in Geneva. In his remarks at the launch event, the Special Envoy presented road safety as a sustainable development issue and highlighted its economic impact on societies.

A number of activities contributing to awareness raising, mobilizing funding and development cooperation are being planned later in the year and it is planned that a similar network is established in New York.
