Training Workshop on Guidelines and best practices for MSMEs to assure resiliency and progress toward a circular economy in sustainable resource management and critical raw material supply chain solutions in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia

05 July 2022 0:00 - 12:30

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia faced economic recession, potentially leaving many people in poverty. A significant number of households have lost income since the beginning of the pandemic. UNECE conducted a study on the “Guidelines and best practices for MSMEs to assure resiliency and progress towards a circular economy in sustainable resource management and critical raw material supply chain solutions” in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia under the United Nations Development Account (UNDA) Project “Global Initiative towards the post-COVID-19 resurgence of the MSME sector.”

Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia have significant potential for several critical raw materials (CRMs), which could be crucial in green energy, mobility and digital transitions. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have several opportunities to participate in the production, refining and value-addition of the CRMs. The United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) can help in the sustainable management of CRMs and progress towards a circular economy.

The training workshop will highlight the key findings of the study:

•    Opportunities for MSMEs in the production of CRMs in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia
•    Application of UNFC and UNRM in sustainable management and achieving circularity in CRM use
•    Disclosure requirements to propel increased investments in the CRM sector
•    Policy recommendations to support MSME engagement in the critical raw material supply chains.
