The adoption of the United Nations Millennium Declaration and its formalization into the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) represented a major achievement in terms of providing a framework for advancing development in an inclusive manner. Implementation of the framework, however, has proven to be quite complex and many lessons have been learned along the way that can inform the design and implementation of the post -2015 development agenda.
