On 13-14 December 2019, the Special Envoy travelled to Tirana, Albania, where he had bilateral meetings with key high-level government officials.
During his meetings, the Special Envoy highlighted recommendations from the Road Safety Performance Review conducted by ECE in 2018 and encouraged successful implementation of six UN road safety conventions.
The Special Envoy met with the following officials while in Tirana:
o Mr. Edi Rama, Prime-Minister of Albania
o Mr. Blendi Klosi, Minister of Tourism and Environment
o Ms. Belinda Balluku, Minister of Transport and Energy
o Mr. Gramoz Ruçi, Speaker of the Parliament
o Mr. Sandër Lleshaj, Minister of Interior
During his visit, the Special Envoy met with Mr. Brian Williams, the UN Resident Coordinator for Albania, who also accompanied him to governments meetings.
The Special Envoy shared about the UN efforts, including the UN Road Safety Strategy and the UNRSF, and encouraged close collaboration with the Government of Albania in achieving national and global road safety goals.
