Sub-Regional Capacity-Building Workshop, 11&12 October, Montevideo

On 11-12 October, with support from the Special Envoy and in collaboration with ECLAC and ECE, the National Road Safety Agency of Uruguay (UNASEV) organized a sub-regional workshop in Montevideo, Uruguay to address the issue of vehicle safety in the Latin America region. The workshop was initiated at the request of the government of Uruguay for technical assistance. It brought together over 40 representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay and Uruguay and covered in-depth the 1958 and 1998 Agreements on the harmonization of motor vehicle regulations in the region as well as road safety governance in Latin America. The event inspired stronger regional dialogue and participating countries expressed interest in acceding to conventions and updating their regulatory framework to improve safety performance of vehicles in the region.
