I can give you a personal, professional reply, and as Leader of the Team on Participation on my perceptions of the working and benefits of the Joint Committee - one of the alliances you refer to. This Committee is my view an essential forum for the promotion of best forest practice in the ECE area. It would be even better if it was even better attended, and even better interacted with by the different forest services and forestry interests. Nevertheless its being allows a response and support for work on subjects of key interest which do not appear to be taken forward in any other way. Its work would be even more effectively undertaken if there was more financial support to co-ordinate and help deliver the work of the Teams, as part of a European wide forestry committment. Currently I would see sustainable forest management being most actively taken forward in a better social dialogue. A number of key areas need to be addressed and implemented on the ground for this to happen, one of which is better exchange on current country practices and perceptions. I hope these comments are useful. Very best wishes Miles Wenner From: Mr. C. F. L. Prins Chief, Timber Section Trade Division Please see the attached letter for your attention.
