Joining forces to achieve gender equality

UNECE engages with partners at national, regional and international levels to make gender equality a reality.

Our partners:

  • International Gender Champions

International Gender Champions is a leadership network that brings together female and male decision-makers determined to break down gender barriers and make gender equality a working reality in their spheres of influence. Being among the 200 Gender Champions, UNECE Executive Secretary Olga Algayerova sees gender equality as one of her long-term priorities and crucial for building a sustainable future for all.

  • United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA)

An important partner for our work on gender and economy in Central Asia is the Project Working Group on Gender and SDGs under the Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA). SPECA is led jointly by UNESCAP and UNECE and is one of the few mechanisms that aim to bring the sub-region together. The SPECA Working Group on Gender and SDGs aims to strengthen sub-regional cooperation between Central Asian countries in the area of women's economic advancement. The last meeting took place in October 2019.

  • Issue-Based Coalition on Gender

Issue‐based Coalitions act as regional inter-agency task forces to spur cooperation between UN agencies and other partners. The Issue-based Coalition on Gender Equality supports member States and the UN system at national and regional levels in promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across the region. The coalition consists of 13 UN agencies and partners and is co-chaired by UNFPA and UN Women. It was established in May 2016.

  • United Nations Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE)

UNECE actively participates in the work and task forces of the United Nations Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) on various aspects of the economics of gender. The Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) is a network of Gender Focal Points in United Nations offices, specialized agencies, funds and programmes and is chaired by UN Women. UN Women also serves as the Secretariat for the Network.
