Meetings with Government and UN officials in Hungary

•    Meeting with the Minister for Innovation and Technology

The Special Envoy travelled to Budapest, Hungary on 17 July 2020 and held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology.

On the occasion, the Special Envoy appreciated the country’s commitment to global road safety. Additionally, he provided an overview of road safety situation in Hungary and needed actions. The Special Envoy congratulated the country for being a contracting party to all seven UN road safety conventions and encouraged successful implementation.

•    Meeting with the United Nations Country Team

On 17 July 2020, the Special Envoy met with the UNCT in Hungary to discuss the road safety situation in the country with its challenges as well as the way forward.

The Special Envoy encouraged close collaboration and support to the Government in achieving national and regional road safety goals as well as in developing a new National Road Safety Plan 2021-2030. He shared about road safety in the Sustainable Development Goals and regional targets. He also elaborated on the UN efforts including the UN Road Safety Strategy, the UNRSF and the UN road safety conventions.
