Meeting with Ms. Kristin Hagegard, Liaison Officer, UNDP Nordic Office Sweden

The Special Envoy gave an overview of his role, mandate and key priorities, as well as provided an overview of a potential UN Road Safety Fund. Together they discussed potential opportunities for collaboration, including UNDP’s support in raising awareness on road safety through their social media network. Ms. Hagegard expressed her support to the cause as well as readiness to contribute to improving road safety.
A Scandinavian country in Northern Europe, Sweden is among top three performing countries in the world after Norway and Malta. Sweden’s population is 9.9 million, and according to OECD, Sweden’s road traffic fatality rate is 2.6 deaths per 100,000 population. Number of road traffic fatalities in Sweden has been decreasing since 1995, when the government introduced the concept of Vision Zero.
